Our History

It was 1968 when Clune J. Walsh and a partner established Walsh & Hinckley Co., an investment advisory company initially located in downtown Detroit. The company operated downtown for several decades before relocating to Birmingham, where it spent 19 years before returning to new downtown offices in the Grand Circus Park area.

For many years, Mr. Walsh envisioned having his son Brendan succeed him as president and managing partner of the company. But when Brendan was ready to enter the professional world, his father encouraged him to work elsewhere to gain experience while continuing to lay the groundwork for his eventual arrival.

In 2012, Clune decided it was time to bring Brendan into the company and recruited him away from the Washington D.C. office of Northwestern Mutual Life.

Brendan joined the company in 2012 and began a transition process that would see him take over as president and managing partner in 2015.

At the same time, the company’s name transitioned to Catalyst Solutions Group to reflect its commitment to identifying and pursuing solutions to clients’ short- and long-term financial needs.

Although the company is fully licensed to operate as an insurance agency, its scope today is much wider – using not only insurance but various other financial instruments to help achieve the estate planning, business planning and wealth preservation goals of its clients.
